In six-sigma, the z-score and the process sigma are often used interchangeably, however the process sigma usually contains a "shift" value. In six sigma the default shift is 1.5 standard deviations. The shift, or how much the process can vary over time is added the z-score—see the article What's the 1.5ó Shift and Does it Apply to Software Usability?
