Comparing Two Means :: Introduction
In my experience, one of the best things to know how to do in statistics is to compare the means of two groups. It comes up all the time in every field: you want to know if there is a difference between two groups of people or things and you want to know if that difference is "statistically significant." In other words, is what you observed greater than what you'd expect from chance fluctuations alone?

In this tutorial I'll use plain English to walk through step-by-step what is involved in comparing two groups and the computations and how to conduct a t-test by hand, using the online calculator at usablestatistics.com excel, with Minitab and SPSS including screen shots and 5 examples with real data from actual t-tests. Below is the outline for what I will cover.
