Use the percentile to z-score calculator and enter in .05. For both tails of the normal curve this corresponds to a z-score of -1.96 and for just one-tail this corresponds to a z-score of -1.64.  If you don't know if you need one or two sided z-scores, then use the 2-sided value of -1.96.
